When I invite musicians to my house to perform in my house concert series, it’s not just about the music, or the concert. It’s more about the opportunity to hang out and make friends with whoever is coming to play.
I will encourage them to come into Salt Lake City a day before the show, and stay a day afterward so we can visit, hang out, and I can take them on a little sightseeing adventure as well.
Salt Lake City is such a neat city, and there’s so much to see and do. Here’s my list for a fun afternoon of seeing the sights:
Temple Square - I love to take people down to see Temple Square and experience beautiful grounds. Depending on the time of year, it’s always a pretty sight. Amazing architecture, a giant castle-like temple, beautiful fountains and infinity pools, gorgeous gardens. It’s really quite a neat place. In the spring, when the trees are blooming, Temple Square is one of my favorite places to see. In the winter, when all the holiday lights are up, it’s even more impressive.

Utah Capitol Building - This is one of my favorite places not only for the incredible architecture, but for the view of the Salt Lake valley and downtown Salt Lake City. The Capitol sits up on the mountain overlooking the valley and has a great view of the Great Salt Lake, the Wasatch Mountains, downtown, and the whole valley looking southward. Inside the architecture, the granite and marble, and the statuary is impressive. It’s truly a sight to behold, reminiscent of some of the amazing architecture I’ve seen while traveling in Europe.

South Temple Drive - This street is one of the oldest in Salt Lake City, and it is home to some of the old mansions and estates from when Brigham Young settled here. The mansions, which are now mostly office buildings, are so beautiful and massive. There is also the gothic style Cathedral of the Madeline, and the old Presbyterian Cathedral, which are both beautiful from the outside, as well as inside. Lots to see on this little drive.
University of Utah Hospital and Medical Campus - I like to drive through here simply for the views of Salt Lake City. This area has a great vantage point to see the valley from up high.
