Expressive Art and the Artists That Make Valley View Come To Life

People often tell me that my home is like an art gallery.  I love art!  And not just any art… it has to speak to me, move me, touch me — be a form of expressive art.  And when it does speak, I often buy it so I can cherish it every day.  My home is filled with colorful glass art, oil paintings, colorful vases and sculptures, etc.  I’ve always had the philosophy that spending money on travel, food, and art is money worth spending!

Paintings:

One of the first things you see when you enter my house is a giant painting by Megan Duncanson.  She goes by MADART and her paintings are colorful and vibrant!  It’s more on the abstract side (which is my favorite style of expressive art).  I love Megan’s work so much that I have eleven of her paintings hanging in my home.

Another of my favorite painters is my good friend and fellow pianists, Scott D. Davis.  His style of painting really speaks to me, and his first ever attempt at painting anything is hanging on my wall.  It took me several years to convince him to sell it to me, and it is by far one of my favorite pieces of art.  All of his piecesare music themed!

JC Pino is one of my friends, and he’s an incredible painter.  I have several of his pieces hanging in my home.  I first discovered him at one of my favorite restaurants, Cafe Madrid.  His work hangs there on display and over the years we became friends.  His painting, The Universe is one of my favorite pieces I own.  I also love his four piece painting, The Blowing Irises.  And, if you visit his website, you’ll hear my music playing!

Glass Art:

All throughout my house you’ll find glass art.  My very favorite glass artist is Laurie Burns.  She used to be my neighbor growing up, and when she moved to the San Juan Islands in Washington state, I bought her house!  I lived there for many years before I purchased my new home.  Her style of glass work is incredible.  I have her pieces hanging in many of the rooms in my house.

Another of my favorite art pieces is actually a collection of glass platters and bowls, hanging to create one big piece of art.  All of the bowls and platters were made by Holdman Studios in Lehi, UT.  It is reminiscent of Dale Chihuly’s work, who happens to be one of my favorite glass artists.  Holdman Studios is so awesome, they even came to my house to hang the art for me!

Sculptures:

One of my favorite sculptors is Tim Cotterill, otherwise known as Frogman.  He makes patina bronze frogs and they have such personality and style.  I own many of his frogs!!

My newest favorite sculptor is John Maisano.  I first saw his work at Exposures Gallery in Sedona, AZ and fell in love!  His style of artwork, with intricate design and tribal patterns really caught my eye.  I own two of his pieces… a little turtle named Dash, and The Great Wave, which symbolizes forward progression and change in life.  I hope to fill my home with many more of John’s pieces.

Unique Art:

When I was in Sedona last year, I fell in love with this piece of art.  It’s a piece of petrified wood, mounted to a wood backing that has been painted to extend the petrified wood.  This is quite possibly one of the most unique pieces of art I own, and one that spoke to me the most.  The artists are Michael Redhawk and Marlys Mallett, and together they create these stunning pieces of art.

I’m always adding new pieces and collections of expressive art to my home!!  It’s something that brings me quite a bit of joy!
